The LAVA research group (Language Acquisition, Variation and Attrition) and the the PoLaR lab (Psycholinguistics of Language Representation) at UiT the Arctic University of Norway are pleased to announce the workshop Bilingualism and the Brain, to be held in Tromsø May 4th-5th, 2020. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together researchers from around the world who work on bilingualism from a brain prospective. More specifically, the focus will be to what extent the amount of exposure, knowledge and the degree of active engagement with more than one language in a single mind affects brain structure, brain functions, and/or how neurophysiological measures tap into the processing of multiple languages.

Keynote speakers
• Gigi Luk (McGill University, Canada)
• John Grundy (Iowa State University, USA)
• Clara Martin (BCBL San Sebastian, Spain)
• Christos Pliatsikas (University of Reading, UK)
• Minna Lehtonen (University of Oslo, Norway)

The deadline for submissions is February 15th, 2020. You may submit an abstract for consideration as a paper, poster or both. Please indicate in your submission if you would like to be considered as a paper or poster only; all others will be automatically considered for both. We accept poster submissions, especially from graduate students and postdocs, that present ongoing work, even at a well-developed (but not yet implemented) conceptual level. Abstract submissions must fit on one A4 page, written in Times New Roman script, 12 point font. A second, optional page can be used for references, charts/tables, and examples of experimental methodology only. Your abstract should include a title, but no identifying information. Up to five 5000 NOK (roughly 500 euros) in funding is available to PhD students with highly rated abstracts. If you wish to be considered for this, please send an e-mail to: bilingualismandthebrain@gmail.com. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed and we endeavor to inform authors of the outcome by March 15th, 2020.
