Welcome to Stockholm in 2011

by Camilla Bardel and Fanny Forsberg Lundell

The Eurosla conference next year will take place in Stockholm, Sweden, the Venice of Scandinavia, from September 8th to the 10th, 2011, with pre-conference events on September 7th. We are very pleased to announce our distinguished plenary speakers: Professor Michael Long, University of Maryland, USA, Professor Silvina Montrul, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, Professor Florence Myles, University of Newcastle, UK and our own Professor Inge Bartning from StockholmUniversity. We are looking forward to abstracts for talks, posters and panels within any area related to second language acquisition research. Deadline for abstracts is February 15th, 2011.

The pleasant city centre of Stockholm, which, like many Swedish things, is of  “lagomsize – that is, it is neither too big nor too small, can easily be discovered walking. The city is composed of a number of islands, each with its own character. With its proximity to the water and archipelago, it offers many kinds of very scenic boat excursions.  Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and hosts a large number of interesting museums in art and design, especially Moderna Museet (with its lovely sea view restaurant), Svensk Form, Nationalmuseum and the recently inaugurated Fotografiska (PhotographicMuseum). There are numerous restaurants and nightlife experiences at all price ranges. For those who would like to prolong their stay in Stockholm, a visit to the Stockholm archipelago, with its thousands of islands, can be both memorable and relaxing. The city of Stockholm will officially welcome all conference attendees at our beautiful City Hall (see photo below) in the evening of September 8th.
