Dear colleagues,
After many weeks of watching the progress of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is now clear that the EuroSLA 30 conference cannot be held in July 2020 as planned with all safety guarantees for everybody involved. Therefore, we regret to inform you that the local organizing committee in coordination with the EuroSLA Executive Board have decided to postpone EuroSLA 30 until around the same dates in 2021.
What will be done with the already accepted submissions?
We are moving the conference ahead one year and keeping everything the same as much as possible. Papers, posters, and colloquia that have been accepted for 2020 are automatically accepted for presentation in 2021. We are very pleased to note that our plenary speakers and the speakers in the LLRT have agreed to come to EuroSLA 30 in 2021. We are extremely grateful to all of them and to Language Learning for their continuing support.
Can changes in abstracts or people be introduced?
Updates and minor revisions to existing abstracts for oral presentations, posters and colloquia presentations are possible, so long as it is fundamentally the same project that was peer reviewed. Changes in the authors (adding, deleting or replacing authors) are also possible. Please let us know if you intend to make changes to your original abstract or authors, or if you cannot participate in the 2021 conference by November 30th, 2020.
Doctoral workshops
Since doctoral workshops are generally intended for the initial stages in PhD work, accepted submission in 2020 will need to be re-submitted and reviewed again. Proposals that will have already gone beyond the stages of lit review, research questions and piloting into more advanced stages will be asked to withdraw and a new limited call for proposals will be sent out.
Registration fees for EuroSLA 2021
If you have already registered and paid and intend to come to Barcelona in 2021 you don’t need to do anything. If you would like to withdraw your registration we will refund it. Please let us know at eurosla2020@ub.edu. We will (re)open up EuroSLA 2021 registration in December 2020 with an early bird deadline set at February 15th, 2021. After that, we will be able to finalize the program.
Accommodations
We are contacting the conference hotels to let them know about the postponement. We will update our website on details of accommodations should there be any change.
Unless extremely urgent, we would kindly ask you to withhold any of your specific enquiries until the next update. We will share more information as soon as we have it. In as much as we wish we could welcome you all here in Barcelona this July, we believe you will agree that this is the best course of action given the present circumstances. More than ever, we look forward to meeting you all in Barcelona in 2021.
