To commemorate the legacy of Vivian Cook, founder of EuroSLA, we have launched a Special Issue Call for JESLA at our conference at Fribourg in August 2022.
This Special Issue calls for an interdisciplinary range of papers that are grounded in a specific aspect of Vivian’s contributions to second language research, such as multi-competence, bilingual cognition, second language writing systems, among others.
In view of Vivian’s wide impact on researchers around the world, submissions for this Special Issue Call will be accepted without the usual restriction that an author should be a current EuroSLA member of good standing.
We welcome empirical, theoretical and methodological research papers, including meta-analyses. No specific theories or approaches are given preference, but the introduction should make an explicit link to Vivian’s work. Article word limit is around 8000 words including references.
We plan to include up to 10 of the best submissions to include in the Special Issue, based on reviewer ratings.
Extended timescale:
· Submit abstracts for evaluation – 28 February 2023 (abstract word limit 500 words, not including references)
· Decision on selected submissions – 31 March 2023
· Submission of first draft of accepted papers to send out to review – 1 September 2023
· Publication – typically 6-9 months from submission.
As usual, submissions will have the advantages of no-cost open access, and fast turnaround; we will present a showcase of accepted contributions at the following EuroSLA conference in 2023.
